Chapter Six

After training the next day and inspired by the reaction of Cassie’s slaves and her own, Kendra decided to go to the garden and play her guitar. She knew it was wrong to enjoy this game she played with Rowan, but something about him made her want to do more than just tell him he was to be in her bed. She wanted him to want to be there, so the seduction continued.

Cassie’s slaves bathed and dressed her. She nearly bedded them, but she decided to abstain. She felt they could return to their own homes soon, since Kellen was so much improved. It would remove the temptation of their beautiful selves from her. Kellen had been out of the bed and on the couch when she got home from training, and she was so happy to see him looking more like himself.

She used the strap to sling the guitar over her shoulder and made her way to the gardens. Kendra found a place not too far from where Rowan now worked, making sure he didn’t see her.

She strummed the guitar softly, then played through a couple instrumentals. Her fingers still becoming used to the material of the strings. She lost herself in the music to such an extent she was unaware at just what moment Rowan had come close to her. She met his eyes as he squatted down and listened, his eyes soft and yearning.

She smiled at him and started playing and singing. When she sang, she was pleased to see him react just as the others had. His breathing became rapid, and she swore she could see his pupils dilate.

She crooned the words of love in a high sweet voice, eyes locked on his face as tears filled his beautiful eyes. The only movement he made while listening to her was the breath that fell from his lips.

When she was finished, she set the guitar down, looking at the silent tears streaking his face.

“Lady Kendra, I have never…” Words failed him.

Kendra stood and walked to him, then reached down to pull him upright.

He was still staring at her, unable to articulate what he was feeling. She went up on tiptoe and put her hand on the back of his neck, pulling him down to where she could kiss him.

Rowan sobbed at the touch of her mouth, and his body trembled violently. She kissed him softly and sweetly, and then abruptly plundered his mouth with her tongue. Finally she broke the kiss and sank her teeth into his lower lip, biting gently.

Suddenly, she was gone from him. She just turned, picked up her instrument and walked away.

Rowan stood frozen. When he could breathe again, it was ragged as he tried to compose himself. He hated her so much at that moment. To raise him so high, and give him a glimpse of paradise, then leave him bereft, without a word.

Kendra put her hand to her mouth as she walked away. She didn’t have to sleep with him first, that kiss told her everything she needed to know.
